                         Help Us Help Our Soldiers!

One of our staff members, Angela, has taken a personal interest in a knitting charity providing knitting wool helmet liners to our soldiers as one of her neighbors has a son fighting overseas and it seems that the knitted helmet liners are invaluable to our soldiers over in Iraq. We don't think of it as being cold in the desert, but apparently it is bitterly cold and these helmet liners provide a tremendous benefit to our countrymen who are putting their lives on the line.

In order to help those of you who would like to knit for this cause but may not feel you have the requisite skills, we will be offering free help and guidance on the following Thursday mornings from 10 am until 1 pm: November 15, November 29, December 6, December 13, and December 18. We will help you read the pattern, knit in the round on circular and double pointed needles, pick up sitiches and knit ribbing from the picked up stitches.

Copies of the pattern are available at The Peace of Yarn and you can also click here for a copy.
We will also assist you in your yarn selection as it is imperative that the yarn be 100% soft wool as our Armed Forces are not allowed to wear synthetic fibers outside the wire. Wool is inherently non-flammable and won't melt against the skin in the event of an accident and is warm even when wet.

Due to your continuing genenosity, we have collected 35 helmet liners so far!! We will continue to contribute to this cause throughout the year so that we can provide warmth to as many of our soldiers as possible.
